Dear Community Leader,
We invite you to join us at a community meeting with other concerned
citizens in our region, along with members of the San Diego Women's
Foundation (SDWF). The SDWF’s mission is to engage women in significant
philanthropy in the San Diego region. Each year, the SDWF grants more
than $200,000 to community organizations dedicated to improving life in
this region. A different grant focus is determined each year.
The SDWF is doing research to prepare for writing guidelines for its
2010 grant cycle, focusing on the environment. As part of that research,
the SDWF wants to listen and learn what is most important to people from
different communities in San Diego. Through this process, the SDWF hopes
to determine common threads, get a sense of people's visions for their
community and hear their priorities in the area of the environment. This
information will help the SDWF narrow its focus and develop grant
guidelines that will result in projects with the greatest potential for
impact.
The SDWF is using the following definition as a starting point for
the environment grants focus: "Environmental Action: Actions that
promote the awareness, appreciation, health, and sustainable use of San
Diego County's natural resources - including air, water, land, climate,
topography, biology, and ecology - for the benefit of all."
We invite your neighborhood organization to send one or two
representatives to participate in the meeting. It takes place 6 pm
Tuesday March 24, at SDSU’s Entrepreneurial Management Center, 5250
Campanile
Drive. A map is attached to help you find your way. Park in
the structure shown on the map for a nominal fee (purchase a permit in
the garage), or parking is available on nearby streets.
Please allow approximately two and a half hours for the meeting. Food
will be provided.
While the SDWF cannot give any community or organization favored
standing for grants as a result of participating, every participant will
be included on the Request for Proposal (RFP) list in the fall of 2009.
The meeting format is informal and inclusive; everyone will be heard and
priorities clearly identified.
Please respond via email to
Lsouhrada@aol.com with the San Diego
Women’s Foundation. We look forward to your participation.
Thank you,
Sandi Buehner, President
